Stop, Look and Listen – You Might Find Your Next Customer!

In case you’ve never stopped in to visit us before, PentaVision is located in shopping plaza in a residential area of South Bend. People are sometimes surprised to see us tucked back in this residential neighborhood, but we’re one of several businesses that call this place home. On one end of the building is one of those discount retail stores which usually has a pretty steady stream of customers throughout the day, including us at PentaVision. In fact, I’m quite sure that I probably buy more Fruit Stripe gum there than the kids that trickle in after school!

It’s the Message – Not the Medium

 

I’ve been attending quite a few great webinars lately – but none of them really gave me a jolt of life and inspiration like the one I attended on Tuesday presented by HubSpot that featured Gary Vaynerchuk, author of Crush It! and host of Wine Library TV – a vlog (video blog) all about one of my favorite topics, wine (I’ve created a Facebook group dedicated to that very topic!). Maybe it was the copious amounts of Starbucks bold coffee coursing through my veins, but a major fire was lit under me as I listened to Gary’s discussion about infusing passion into storytelling and interacting with customers to create dialogue and cultivate relationships.

You might be wondering how a guy who blogs about wine has earned the reputation as a best-selling author, social media guru and in-demand speaker. To anyone who attended, it was probably obvious:  Gary is absolutely passionate about everything he does. He lives, breathes and drinks(!) what he loves.

Did you get the (subliminal) message?

Anyone that’s not living under a rock these days understands how bad the economic recession impacted the Michiana area over the last two years. It seems like every day, we are hearing and reading the same news every day:  more layoffs, business closings and dropping consumer confidence. While it appears that we might be through the worst of it, and it’s not as if we haven’t been without some good stories throughout it all. In fact, PentaVision is sponsoring a contest to find and celebrate positive stories from Michiana businesses and organizations. Despite the fact that we know there are good things happening, how is it that the worst of it seems to make the biggest impression, while the good news is easily forgotten?
