Bringing it all together…Producer 101

Picture if you will, a great orchestra tuning up before a big performance. Musicians on strings, woodwinds, percussion and various types of brass instruments all playing different notes, warm up scales, random sounds and all of them playing at different tempos. We’ve all heard this “acoustic cacophony” before the beginning of a concert performance or some other show we’ve gone to see. Now enter one person, the one person who brings this disorganized group together, grabs their attention, quiets the commotion and ultimately gets this collection of talented musicians to perform beautiful music together as one team. That one person is the orchestra conductor. Now imagine preparing for a video production. Read the rest of this entry →

Branding bug? – Take a “S.W.O.T.” at it.

Identity – sometimes it’s a difficult chore to discover not only who you are but what you are all about. In business, these same things hold true. An entrepreneur or a new business owner has to have an identity of what their business is and what it does before they can hang their sign, print business cards, or even make that first sales call. Still, at the core of all of this is their identity – the “Who are you?” that maintains the face of the business. Some may say it’s in the name, like Bill’s Roofing, or it’s in the logo, like the Golden Arches. But the more you look at it, your business’ identity is really your brand and how you establish and market your brand to your current and potential customers. Read the rest of this entry →

Location, Location, Location…

You hear the value of that in real estate all the time, but does it hold true in the production world? I say “Absolutely!!” One of the first questions to ask when starting a production is, “Where are we going to shoot that?” Being based here in Northern Indiana certainly has both its advantages and disadvantages. Social Media…It’s All Changing Now…

When I was still in college (sigh…), wireless laptops were the professors biggest competition in the classroom.  Having wireless in classrooms was a big thing ~ even bigger when professors allowed you to bring your own laptop to “take notes” but it also gave everyone around you free reign to see what you were looking at. (Note taking, 100% of the time, I swear!!!) Majority of the time, most students had one popular social networking site always up – Facebook.  Back then (2-3 years ago), Facebook was still predominantly for college and high school kids.  It had started to grow among recent graduates but it definitely had not escalated to parents, grandparents or professors…yet.  As these students graduated and went off into the working world, they often found social media sites blocked by their employers.  How dare they!?!?
