Happy New (Video) Year

With the coming of the holidays and the New Year right around the corner, maybe it’s time to think about doing something with video. Some simple but great ways to start could be updating that corporate video you had done several years ago (it’s on VHS you say?), embedding some video elements on your website or even starting a YouTube channel for your company. In many ways, video has become an integral piece of the marketing process. Read the rest of this entry →

What We Need Is A Video!

“Studies show that people remember merely 20% of what they hear and only 30% of what they see, but an incredible 70% of what they hear and see at the same time.“  -Harvard Business Review
YouTube gets over 1 billion hits a day. Google uses video for its live searching and website rankings. YouTube has more than 60 HOURS of video content uploaded every MINUTE!  From 2009 to 2010 video was the fastest growing feature added to websites. Video is helping to brand, market, educate, and build relationships with businesses and their customers more and more. Video gives you the ability to relay a complex message in a short amount of time. Video and the internet, it simply works well together. Read the rest of this entry →

Can I Say That?

Your company has finally decided to do that much talked about corporate video to put on the main page of the website and be the flagship video on the launch of their new You Tube channel. They also decided to put the company president at the beginning of the video because they feel it will personalize the message, all of your clients really like him and they want people to relate to a familiar face. Actually, these are all great decisions but there may be one glaring problem to the whole plan. Read the rest of this entry →

We come in peace…to tell your story

In 1986, James Cameron came up with the idea to use Steadicam arms to support futuristic weapons in his feature film “Aliens”. They were Cinema Products Mk III Steadicam arms and vests and were used by the characters Vasquez and Drake. The “M-56 Smartguns” in Aliens are described in the script as; “Guns fixed to a floating body harness and targeted by thermal gun sights mounted within the operator’s helmet.”  Sometimes I think we may appear as “aliens” when we are out on shoots because of the different types of equipment we use. The Right Tool…

There is an old saying that says you should “always use the right tool for the right job.”  In the production world, that old adage is especially accurate when we choose what we take on shoots. Take what you need and use what you take is efficiency at its best. Why go big when you can stay little? Read the rest of this entry →

Steadi as she goes…

Camera movement is one feature of media production that can really set the look and feel of your project apart from the rest. Dolly and track, camera jibs or cranes, tripod sliders and camera stabilizers are all different options when it comes to providing this camera movement, each having their own advantages and disadvantages. Set up time, production logistics, crew size and equipment availability can also come into play when planning for the use of this type of equipment. One of the more popular and technically interesting types of camera support that can be used is the camera stabilizer, or more brand specific, the Steadicam. Read the rest of this entry →

Green Screen…it’s not an environmental scan

Your marketing committee decides that the new company video should include having all of the interviews done out on the manufacturing floor so people can be seen “in their element”. The problem? You need earplugs and hearing protection because of the deafening machines out on the production line. How are people ever going to hear an interview of someone standing out there over that entire ruckus? It sounds like this might be the perfect time for the video crew to go “green”. Green screen that is. Read the rest of this entry →

That’s my Uncle Joe…

So at Monday’s staff meeting, your company decides they want to put some video content on their website AND create a YouTube channel. They put you in charge because “you got great video at the company picnic last year.”  You proudly smile and think to yourself that’s great news. Right? Read the rest of this entry →
